How “Fill the Gap” 2008/2009 Donations Were Allocated

Each year, Glebe School Council conducts a "Fill the Gap" campaign to raise funds to for three student awards, and to meet teachers’ requests for funds to support clubs, teams, activities, and for enhancements to classroom programs. Note that funds are NOT used for materials or activities that are required to deliver the curriculum, as these are paid for through our tax dollars.
You Helped Fill the Gap!

In 2008/2009, donations totaled $4,545 from 72 contributors. As the table below shows:

  • $300 was allocated to the three student awards ($100 each).
  • Most of the funds ($4000) filled teacher/group requests.
  • A small amount ($245) offset administrative costs the Council incurred in running the campaign (for this year and next year)

Students - $300.00 Three awards ($100 each)
English Department - $850.00 For a laptop to be shared by 3rd Floor staff
Drama Department - $200.00 To contribute to costumes and production costs
Math Department - $1,000.00 To contribute to specialized software
Writer’s Craft Anthology Project - $200.00 To help offset publishing costs
Language Department - $150.00 For computer speakers
Robotics Club - $300.00 For competition T-shirts
Geography & Outdoor Education - $800.00 To contribute to GPS units
Boys Rugby Team - $500.00 To contribute to rugby equipment
School Council - $245.00 Administrative fees (bank fees, labels, envelopes, etc.)

This year, requests from staff totaled $12,000. School Council used several criteria (established in 2007/2008) to help guide our allocation of the funds.

  1. The potential impact on improving student learning/student environment (academic, cultural, physical/recreational (low/medium/high).
  2. The number of students that will benefit (the more students that benefit, the better).
  3. $300 will be set aside for student awards ($100 to each of three students)

In addition, the Council took into account whether or not the requesting group had access to other funds, and whether or not the group had received funds in the previous year(s).

Glebe School Council extends a warm "thank you" to the parents/guardians who made donations—they make a difference in the life of the students at Glebe!
