3. School Reports
a. Students’ Council – Piyush Padhi. Reported on a successful Terry Fox Run. $4,000 was raised. The next activity was the “Big Pull” at Mooney’s Bay. Council also organized an overnight leadership camp for new leaders. This was a very educational and interactive camp. Last week the Council opened up the noon hour drop in centre for students who want to hang out, do homework, listen to music, and so on. Upcoming activities: Mocktober Fest, “Thriller” themed dance on October 30th. There will be a new coat check system with separate tickets for Glebe students and others.
b. Department Heads – Dan Lajoie on Student Success. Dan described the different programs: credit recovery, credit intervention, credit rescue, homework club, student tracking, and the future leaders program. For more information, contact Daniel.Lajoie@ocdsb.ca. Cathy thanked the teachers who volunteer in the student success program on behalf of Council.
Action item: Dan Lajoie will send his slides to Richard Deadman to post on the Glebe website. There was some discussion of ways of encouraging parents and others to volunteer in the student success program.
Action item: Sylvia Greenspon will write up something for the local papers (Glebe Report, OSCAR, Centretown News).

The school council was approved as proposed.
c. Teachers’ report – Andrew Cumberland. Andrew reported on the distribution of progress reports. One issue that has emerged is what is meant by “excellent” and “good” could be clarified. Parent/teacher interviews will be held this week. Andrew recommended contacting teachers by email or voice mail if it is not possible to arrange an interview. Andrew also reported on the most recent PD day: there was an antibullying workshop. Report cards are coming out in mid-November.
d. Principal – Pat Kulka. Pat Kulka distributed her report.
e. Vice Principals – Mark Harris. Mark Harris reported on the “Me to We” child advocacy assembly.
4. Committee Reports
a. Co-chairs’ Update. Cathy Robinson. Cathy also gave a report on June Creelman’s community activities. Currently Glebe is using the dome at Lansdowne Park. At present we have a private/public relationship with them whereby the students provide set-up for the dome and in exchange are able to use the facilities. June Creelman is asking us to write a letter requesting guaranteed access for community activities. There was a consensus that the Council would support such a letter.
b. Treasurer/Finance Committee. Susan Gemmell. Susan discussed a number of issues: increased awareness, better communication. There was a discussion of (i) ways of increasing awareness of the campaign and (ii) whether to raise funds for curtains for the auditorium or the traditional Fill the Gap campaign goals. Some ideas: translate the website (Pat Kulka has volunteers who will translate), contact Glebe alumni groups via facebook, set up a paypal account on the Glebe website. Action item: The finance/fundraising committee will meet to discuss these issues and report at the next meeting.
c. OCASC Representative - Deborah Lemkow. On October 28th at Canterbury there will be a workshop on anxiety and teens. The school year for 2011 is currently being discussed. Scotiabank has a policy of assisting with local arts in the school – this could be a source of funding for Glebe.
d. Secondary Schools Representative. Jean MacIssac. Three weeks ago a film was released by Teen Truth on An Inside Look at Body Image.
e. Special Events Committee. There was some discussion of taking money that would usually be spent on the school lunch on the curtains. There seems to be a consensus that it would be a good idea to go ahead with the lunch but to decrease the amount of money spent on it.
f. Communications Committee (including demonstration of website). Richard Deadman provided a demonstration of the new website.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:20.
The next meeting will be held Monday, November 9
